Revelry with queens of the Mardi Gras demimonde.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 9

Maple Leaf Bar (8316 Oak St.). In the realm of Carnivaldom, not all queens are idealized embodiments of genteel femininity—i.e., young ladies on the threshold of adulthood, presenting themselves to society with grace and polished regality. Some reign over krewes that pride themselves on bacchanalian revelry and outlandish imitations of the formalized protocols of high-society Carnival. At this event, queens of the Mardi Gras demimonde—not all of them representing the fairer sex—flaunt their finery and put on all manner of royal airs, vying for recognition and honors. Contest winners will be awarded prizes donated by the Maple Leaf, Jacques-Imo's Café, Squeal Bar-B-Q and Z'otz Café, among others. Music by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. Cover charge. Cash bar.
