- 2ND ANNUAL KREWE DE JEANNE D'ARC PARADE

Summary :
Parade honoring Joan of Arc.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 6
6 p.m.

Procession tapping the deep wellspring of New Orleans's theater, music and visual arts communities, in honor of the pious-peasant-girl-turned-heroine, St. Joan of Arc (aka the Maid of Orleans), who was born on Twelfth Night, 1412. Sponsored by the Joan of Arc Project, whose mission is to educate the public about New Orleans’ Gallic heritage and promote "Joan-inspired awareness, expression and interpretation," the parade features historic characters in Medieval costume, plus "specially designed props, delicate hand-crafted throws, giant puppets, song, fire and history." (For more info, visit project founder Amy Kirk's blog). Starts at the Jean Baptiste Bienville statue on Decatur St. at Conti St., then proceeds up Conti to Chartres. Ends at the Joan of Arc statue at New Place de France, at St. Philip St. and Decatur St. The post-parade party, at the Market Cafe next to the statue, will feature entertainment by Pierre Pichon and his Gyspy Swing Trio, followed by Marc Gunn playing Celtic-American music. Cash bar.
